Urban Playhouse
A Gameboard Residence

The qualities of play and architecture share three simple elements: space, movement, and time. Board games in particular are quite architectural. Board games usually come in a box with an established grid in a clear boundary of space, rules are set, and some type of movement across a span of time is experienced. This residence is designed on the qualities and guidelines of a board game. The house starts as a box establishing a sense of privacy and context, a grid is used to organize structure, space, and establish constraints. These constraints are then used as the method of play: how can we play within the rules to establish movement and a dynamic space to support daily life in a playful manner.

Rammed Earth

Architecture in Slovenia has a beautiful composition of vernacular and contemporary designs that present both historical relevance and progressive development in design. The project site provides a clear opportunity of presenting a narrative of the pure and honest vernacular form with a contemporary design nestled within nature.
