Ice Cube Hut
Human and Ice

This installation embodies a celebration of human spirit and the natural environment. Sometimes we need to escape the commonalities of our built environment to confront the world in which we live. And there is nothing more immediate in allowing us to confront our own existence than a freezing climate. This entry utilizes the freezing environment by using naturally occurring ice and honest human work. Ice is extracted from the local context, cut into human scale modules (Ice Cubes) and lifted by hand to assemble a simple hut. Ice will melt the hut and the water will return to its original state. No extra man-made materials. No waste. Just water and the human endeavor.

Urban Playhouse

The qualities of play and architecture share three simple elements: space, movement, and time. Board games in particular are quite architectural. Board games usually come in a box with an established grid in a clear boundary of space, rules are set, and some type of movement across a span of time is experienced.
